How it works

In Mexico vacation rentals, the cleaning fee appears as a separate line item when a guest books through Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking or directly with an owner. The fee typically ranges from USD 50 to USD 150 (approximately MXN 940 to MXN 2,820 at the November 2026 exchange rate of MXN 18.81 per USD) depending on property size, location and level of service, with Mexico fees generally lower than the USD 161 United States average. In Quintana Roo the guest pays the cleaning fee as part of the total booking cost, and the owner uses it to cover professional cleaning services that average MXN 9,863 per month for cleaning staff. The cleaning fee is part of the owner taxable rental income subject to ISR and IVA at 16 percent, but owners who choose provisional tax payments may deduct cleaning costs as an authorized expense by obtaining a CFDI invoice from their cleaning service provider and paying via bank transfer. The fee does not affect the nightly rate but adds to the guest total cost, which can impact booking decisions especially for shorter stays.
